Legal and public policy advocacy

Legal and public policy advocacy is one of the main pillars of our programmes. One of the key pillars of the SPAF network is to lobby for the development and implementation of  social protection laws and policies in Kenya. We analyze laws, policies and processes, as well as service delivery, and provide feedback and input that promotes sustainable change. Since the inception of the platform we have engaged with various legal and policy processes as the country develops policies and laws to guide social protection in Kenya. SPAF promotes the application of human rights standards in social protection laws, policies, programmes and practice. Under the legal and policy advocacy work, we engage with the ministry in charge of social protection in the development of laws and policies ( Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, specifically the State Department of Social Protection) in promoting human rights in social protection laws, policies and programmes. We also engage with international and human rights bodies and other international organizations in promoting the understanding of and respect for human rights in service delivery. We provide public education on the existing social protection laws, policies as well as processes, so as to fulfil the constitutional requirement of public participation.
